As I recall, he reportedly made a few brief remarks at the beginning of that last week (i.e., his last taping day) that provoked some emotion after his passing. Not sure if they were Christmas-specific, or vaguely holiday related, or neither.
If he mentions the day on the last show, they could just explain the show's original scheduling and leave it as recorded.
