Not sure what credibility this source has, but the substance fits; producers basically say they didn’t have time for everyone (e.g. also no Paul Rudd) and pandemic and other schedule limitations played a role.
I suspect if any of the actors who played black or lesbian characters had been invited and declined, that somehow would have made its way into the common information stream. Most likely, the producers wanted this to be only a feel good moment, and not bring up anything that could be a downer. As I say, short sighted.
