His defense works better for being in the Writers Room of a sitcom, not an
actor on set, though not clear if even then it fly in current environment.

In any case, by the time HR formally tells you to stop doing something,
it’s time to stop doing that thing, regardless of whether you think it is a
problem, if you don’t want to get fired.
