And he wouldn't have sucked back in 2004-2005 if he was indeed offered the 
role then.  As much as I enjoy Eccleston's performance, I'd certainly have 
watched Grant as the Ninth Doctor.
But I do check in only occasionally on the show, depending on how much I'm 
engaged by whomever the Doctor and Companions are.
Is it accurate to say that only Capaldi had really made a name for himself 
prior to taking the role?  At least from a U.S. perspective that seems to be 
the case.
