Hey everyone, I'm back in the Golden State and I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I think it says a lot about Paul, not just that he comes support a young band, but that he stays engaged with the Late Show band members as well. Since PGage mentioned the song, The Late Show posted a second Commercial Breakdown video from when Clyde and Gracie Lawrence sat in with the band and they performed "Do You Want to Do Nothing With Me?" The last 30 seconds or so are coming out of commercial, and end right before Stephen asks Louis to introduce the guests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jBPE_tJgzI The full band hasn't played at the Ed, but they did record a performance that the show posted online. It's another original, "Don't Lose Sight" (They also performed this song on Kimmel's program this spring.)

Can only imagine how great it work be to see Paul come out with these young performers. I have been a fan of Lake Street Dive since I saw them at BottleRock some years ago, and via following them online came across a YouTube video for “Do You Want To Do Nothing With Me” which felt like it had a similar vibe. I will try to follow them more intentionally now. The band is Lawrence (an eight-piece soul, funk and pop band based in NYC). The two singers sat in with the Late Show Band in September and they have a connection with LS trumpeter Jon Lampley. Lampley opened the show with a side project that he and former Late Show bassist Michael Thurber are doing, and the backing band included Negah Santos, Joe Saylor and Danae Greenfield (she sat in with the LSB on keys this week). Louis Cato also guested on a song. Lawrence brought out Lampley, Santos, Saylor and Cato during their set, pulled out a second keyboard, and I'm thinking that Jon Batiste might be in the building. It was Paul Shaffer. I was floored. They all jammed on Stevie Wonder's Living for the City and Carole King's Natural Woman. Paul sounded just as good as he did when he was still playing at the Ed. I'd never seen Shaffer perform live, so this was an unexpected pleasure. He stuck around for the encore (New York, New York), which had enough people on the stage to resemble a Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony jam session.
