Mark Curry, still best-known for the sitcom "Hanging with Mr. Cooper," was doing a standup gig in the conservative community Colorado Springs, Colo. (I should know--my parents lived out the rest of their lives in that town) and staying at the Wyndham Hotel there, was hanging out in the hotel lobby before going to his gig when an employee demanded to see his room key. Curry asked for his ID and an argument ensued (did we mention that Curry is Black?). Curry recorded it, put it on his Instagram and told his followers to call the combined security/maintenance chief at the hotel. The hotel chain, whose brands include La Quinta, Days Inn, Super 8, Microtel, AmericInn, Ramada, Baymont, Wingate, Travelodge and Howard Johnson and are mostly franchise operations, responded by saying that the hotel was a franchisee, that Curry was being refunded and could stay for free in the future and that that there would be diversity training (the video is in the below link):
