I don’t care for Lemon and track CNN so lightly that this episode, which
apparently happened Thursday, did show on my radar until late last night,
when somehow a thread of Fox News idiots broke through on my Twitter feed
and I eventually decoded their frothing at the mouth messages.

When you have a job in which you talk for a living you will inevitably say
lots of stupid things. I have a job like that (with much smaller
audiences), and have said lots of stupid things I later have to apologize
for. But mostly those are bad jokes or turns of phrase. This kind of thing
from Lemon seems different to me, more intentional and reflective of
substantive views. It’s also part of what I dislike about him - a
particular kind of assumed privilege to say whatever the fuck he wants
because he is a gay black man, and nobody has suffered more from oppression
that he.

I also despise Nikki Haley of course, but not because she is over 35.

A lot has been written about how much Lemon despises the Morning Shift, and
how much of an embarrassing flop that show has been for Licht. Either
consciously or unconsciously this may have been Lemon’s way of getting out
of that gig, and provide Licht an excuse to throw in the towel and try to
retool the show.

“NEW YORK (AP) — Amid ongoing criticism over his comments about Republican
presidential candidate Nikki Haley, Don Lemon was absent Monday from “CNN
This Morning.” Co-host Poppy Harlow told viewers that “Don has the day off.”

Lemon has not been on the air since Thursday, when during a discussion on
“CNN This Morning” about the ages of politicians he said that the 51-year-old
Haley was not “in her prime.” A woman, he said, was considered in her prime
“in her 20s, 30s and maybe her 40s.”

Challenged by Harlow, Lemon added: “Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just
saying what the facts are.”

Lemon has since apologized, but he has been widely condemned, including by
CNN CEO Chris Licht. According to The New York Times, Licht chastised Lemon
during an editorial call Friday, saying his remarks were “upsetting,
unacceptable and unfair” and a “huge distraction.”

A CNN spokesperson had no immediate comment on whether Lemon would be back
Tuesday.”
