As a cost-cutting move and a possible workaround if there is a WGA strike, "The Young and the Restless" showrunner Josh Griffith has fired the entire "breakdown" staff of writers, who take the general storyline directions from Griffith and his assistants and set up the structure of the daily episodes to be filled in later by "dialogue" writers, and now intends to do that job himself:
