The annual festival of glorious musical overkill is happening this week in Liverpool (since last year's winner the Ukraine has other things on its mind besides a song contest) and is seen for the third year in the U.S. on Peacock. The first semi-final was yesterday, with the second semi tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET and the finals Saturday at 3 p.m. ET. For the first time, you do not have to live in a European Broadcasting Union member country to vote for the entries--you can download the Eurovision app or go to the URL displayed on screen to vote and click "Rest of the World." This gives the viewers votes a slight edge over the alleged music/broadcasting industry panels of judges that also vote for the entries, since there is no "Rest of the World" panel.
The onstage hosts this year include "Ted Lasso"'s Hannah Waddingham and they will be joined by Graham Norton for the finals Saturday, the first time onstage for him after several years as BBC1 host, where he continued the tradition of snark of the late longtime host SIr Terry Wogan. Last year, NBC Sports commentator and Eurovision geek Johnny Weir hosted the Peacock coverage, but this year he is only hosting the finals Saturday--and I assume hosting from either Universal City, 30 Rock or Stamford instead of being in Liverpool.
