I watched the promo reel for the new Matlock.

A part of me died inside.

The original Matlock lacked any pretense. He was a genuine “good ol’ boy”
who practiced the law. It wasn’t that he had a gifted mind; he got what he
needed by asking questions and being honest and nice. Kathy Bates’
Matlock’s singular character trait seems to be that she’s old, and the
promo package centered around that almost entirely. As the series is
destined to be watched by old people, I don’t know that a bunch of
wisecracks about old people is going to be endearing to viewers.
