First, he and his kinfolk escaped Castro's Cuba... as a kid he made 
scripted Super-8 movies with his dad's camera, a horror film and one about 
a Marvel-inspired character... by the 80s he was in L.A., making more 
attention-getting stuff... by the 2000s he'd been an exec on "24" (winning 
an Emmy) and its sequels, co-created Fox's AI drama "NeXt," and exec'ed for 
"Dexter," "ST:Enterprise" (where he broke up the writers-room with fabulous 
impressions of Bill Shatner), and "American Horror Story"... from cancer in 
Pasadena; 62.
