WCPE, a public radio station based in Raleigh, NC and heard nationwide by
satellite on other stations and by streaming that calls itself "The
Classical Station," put out a survey to listeners indicating that they may
not air this year Metropolitan Opera broadcasts that contain what they
consider "inappropriate content," all of them contemporary works, two
written by Blacks and one by a Mexican, all of which contain either
violence or LGBTQ material (and one, John Adams' "El Nino," which they
claim is "non-Biblical")--meanwhile, they are carrying warhorses with rape
plots, but hey, they're singing in Italian, so...:

When interviewed by NPR in the above (the station is an NPR member but
doesn't carry any news programs, not even the hourly newscasts--they don't
have a program grid on their website but I suspect the only NPR program
they carry is the network's last remaining classical program "From the
Top"), general manager Deborah Proctor burst into tears and said "What if
one child hears this? When I stand before Jesus Christ on Judgment Day,
what I am going to say?" As if kids are going to voluntarily listen to
Beethoven.

Needless to say, lots of social media and other response has been negative
and the station defended itself by calling the media coverage
"misrepresentations" and posting on their website the survey letter Proctor
sent out. Make up your own mind (but it looks like WCPE is gaming the
results their way):

May I note that the station's stand on their programming does match some
classical music lovers who want the station to be a refuge from modern
life, which is why it looks like WCPE doesn't carry any general information
beyond weather reports. And some of the operas will be available in
theaters as Fathom Events, on PBS North Carolina (unless they refuse to
carry them) or by streaming other stations on the Met network or the Met
channel on SiriusXM.
