One of the Brits may be able to chime in with more, but I believe that he hadn't been seen on air in quite a while even before his departure. IIRC, he never returned from an extended "mental health" leave that began shortly after one of the tabloids published allegations that he paid a teenager a lot of money to send him pictures of herself. I believe the eventual conclusion was that there was nothing illegal in those pictures, but I guess either there was a reconsideration or something else turned up.
