In New York, Charles Dolan's Sterling Manhattan Cable TV made the first 
sports right deals with professional teams in the 60s--Mr. Dolan went on to 
be one of the founders of HBO, the first satellite-distributed cable 
channel, and as chairman of Cablevision started the first local all-news 
channel with News 12 Long Island and the niche premium channels Bravo and 
American Movie Classics (which changed directions after they became basic 
channels, although Bravo's direction changing came after it was sold to 
NBC)--died of natural causes, among his survivors is his son James, the 
not-particularly-beloved boss of the Knicks and Madison Square Garden:
