Just to be clear, the AP has not gone into any kind of RESISTANCE mode with this, they have a very clear and reasonable rationale. Not that the current US President cares about reason.
Because the body of water in question is not fully contained within the US, and the US President does not have the authority to change the names of geographical entities outside the US, the AP will continue to use the name recognized internationally for 400 years, while also noting that in the US it is officially known by the new name. OTOH, the AP is using the designation Mount McKinley, rather than Denali, because that area is entirely within the US, and the US President does have the authority to change its name.
