Jean Marsh had a distinguished career as an actress in films, theater and
television in the UK, but the world knew her best as the co-creator (with
fellow distinguished actress Eileen Atkins) and co-star of "Upstairs
Downstairs," the 70s ITV drama about a wealthy British family and their
servants that was widely seen in many countries (including PBS as a strand
of "Masterpiece Theatre," and arguably that show's first major hit)--she
also worked off-camera on the series' 2010 remake for the BBC, noting that
"Downton Abbey" was running at the same time on ITV--she said "it might be
coincidence and I might be the Queen of Belgium"--complications of dementia
in her London home:
