I can never tell my brother/housemate someone of significance has died;
he'll either say "they had to at some point," or "when's the last time you
heard of someone living to an unbelievable age?" His old high-school
friend, who for years has served in our state legislature, might be the
only one whose passing will severely affect him.

Marti Lawrence, June 12th:

Gene Shalit, the Today Show's wacky, mustached, pun loving movie reviewer,
died Friday. He was 100. Shalit was a mainstay on the NBC morning show for
40 years until his retirement in November 2010. His family says he “passed
away peacefully today after 100 years of an amazing life"
