Just before the final two episodes of the 5th season of Clarkson’s Farm
dropped, Clarkson posted on Instagram warning viewers they were going to be
grim. Last spring (when the second to last episode was recorded), he
announced he had to go into the hospital for cancer treatment. In the final
episode (recorded in August), he was back in the hospital due to
complications from the cancer treatment.

Now, obviously, if he’s still posting on social media, he’s alive and
kicking. But it was still emotionally charged. Honestly, I’m surprised they
kept his health a secret all this time.

You could not pay my wife to watch an episode of either Top Gear or Grand
Tour, but she’s genuinely enjoyed Clarkson’s Farm. And from what I’m led to
believe, it seems to have had a positive impact in the world of UK farming.
As with any “reality” show, I am certain the reality of farm life isn’t
going to be found on a show centered around an independently wealthy old
man, but it seems to have raised awareness of issues both environmental and
political. And it is genuinely entertaining.
