My friend and mentor Lee Shallat Chemel posted this this evening:

"Way back in the 90s I got a script from my agents for a series called
Friends. I got the offer to direct the pilot. I accepted right away! About
8 hours later they retracted the offer. Jimmy Burrows had read it and
wanted to do it. If I had been the writers of that script, I would have
fired myself and hired Jimmy. Because he was the top.
A couple years later I asked a showrunner I was working with what he
thought made Jimmy Burrows great. He said, without a second of
hesitation,"He adds two laughs every scene, every run-through." If you know
multi-cam, that's it right there.
RIP Jim Burrows"
