TANDBERG Showcases End-To-End DVB-S2 Compatibility Satellite C&D systems target bandwidth improvements and network control (March 22,2005) TANDBERG Television ’s leadership in the global satellite contribution and distribution market will continue at NAB2005, with new products and end-to-end system enhancements for the growing DVB-S2 satellite transmission standard. TANDBERG Television will show its latest bandwidth advances in MPEG -2 standard and high definition compression technology, DVB-S2 demodulation, content security, and over-air receiver control and management. “TANDBERG Television continues to be at the forefront of MPEG -2 compression, a hallmark of our business since the platform’s early 1990s inception,” said Roger Bolton, Business Development Director, TANDBERG Television . “Recent high-profile sales to FOX Network and Shin Satellite prove that MPEG -2 remains a strong choice for our customers and we continue to introduce marked improvements to our industry-leading standard and high definition encoders. Now with the advent of DVB-S2, TANDBERG Television is again at the forefront of a standard that promises to deliver notable bandwidth improvements for broadcasters. Our end-to-end solution for satellite contribution and distribution will demonstrate how satellite broadcasters can build a cost-effective, bandwidth-efficient DVB-S2 system using our latest encoding, decoding, multiplexing and control technology.” The DVB-S2 platform creates a more robust signal and can provide up to a 30 percent bandwidth improvement over DVB-S. DVB-S2 also supports an increased range of applications by combining the functionality of DVB-S for direct-to-home and DVB-DSNG for professional applications. Advertisement At NAB2005, TANDBERG Television will introduce an integrated DVB-S2 demodulator within its TT1260 standard definition and TT1280 HD professional receivers. The DVB-S2 demodulator captures QPSK, 8PSK and 16APSK signals from satellites at the receiving end for decoding into bit streams or composite video outputs. Multi-pass technology will be a second focal point within the satellite contribution and distribution zone of the TANDBERG Television NAB booth. Introduced last year within its E5770 standard definition encoder, TANDBERG Television will show multi-pass HD technology for the first time within its E5780 HD encoder. The intelligent multi-pass technology analyzes when additional bits are required for certain scene changes and fast-action video sequences. Within a statistical multiplex of SD and HD encoders, multi-pass technology allocates additional bits to improve picture quality at these particular sequences. NAB2005 also marks the international debut of DirectorV5, the latest version of TANDBERG Television ’s secure content distribution platform. DirectorV5 provides added functionality for over-air control of receivers and management of the receiver database. In place of traditional smartcards, the TANDBERG DirectorV5 has added modular, highly secure, embedded Simulcrypt Conditional Access systems within its receivers to protect valuable end-to-end standard and high definition content. Downloadable software upgrades reduce operational costs and eliminate operator error, while allowing the broadcaster to retain complete control of the receiver network.
