Friday Morning (5-20) NASA is attempting for a 5th try to launch the NOAA-N spacecraft on a Boeing Delta II rocket from SLC-2W Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. With the past scrubs due to winds, bad pump motor / electrical issues at the pad water deluge pump house and inspections after a broken fuel venting hose was discovered last Friday generated concerns of hydrocarbon contamination in the nose cone and on the NOAA-N spacecraft, engineers concluded after taking 17 samples that there was no contamination. So a go was given to attempt a launch tomorrow morning with a watch on the winds that are forecasted (at this time) to be acceptable at the beginning of the launch window.
Launch is scheduled at 6:22 a.m. EDT. with a window extending 10 minutes to 6:32 a.m. EDT. NOAA-N is the 15th in a series of polar-orbiting satellites dating back to 1978. NOAA uses two satellites, a morning and afternoon satellite, to ensure every part of the Earth is observed at least twice every 12 hours.
