>From another list, this is somewhat ot for some of the lists but definetly of interest to many of us who have a need to know jones.Feel free to forward this to other lists as well if you want in the name of information to all.
www.radioreference.com has a Wiki page giving radio system status and scanner feeds of the affected area. http://www.radioreference.com/wiki/index.php/Hurricane_Katrina I find www.radioreference.com a good site for mainly radio scanning with alittle HF Radio discussion as well. Federal Computer Week had some interesting articles on the situation in New Orleans. The New Orleans EDACS radio system was working after the storm until the natural gas supply to the generators quit. Seems the site owners did not want backup natural gas tanks on their property. http://www.fcw.com/article90541-08-31-05-Web Several Satcom and radio systems are being brought in. Radio systems from the National Interagency Fire Center cache are being used. http://www.fcw.com/article90539-08-31-05-Web Motorola is flying in several radio systems including a 700 MHz APCO Project 25 digital trunked system. 700 MHz is a newly opening band for public safety communications. The Uniden BCD396T is the only scanner so far designed to trunktrack 700 MHz Public Safety systems. http://www.motorola.com/mediacenter/news/detail/0,,5920_5882_23,00.html So the result for scanner monitors near the affected areas are new radio systems on various frequency bands. I get the impression that these systems will be in place for months. 73 Eric ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Life without art & music?
