The KU side is problematic. C band is fairly broad.
You can be off a little to the top/bottom/left/right.
KU is not at all forgiving. Depending on the
tightness of the mount on your dish you can be totally
on or totally off the signal with only a 3 or 4 count
difference. If your dish is wire mesh, it doesn't
have as high a gain as a perforated dish of the same
size. With some mounts, the final dish position will
be different depending on whether you came to the
position from the east or west. Add that to the fact
that, with digital, you have to have all the
parameters "nuts on," as the kids say, to get a
picture. With analog, "close enough" got you remnants
of a picture that you could use to peak the dish. It
is a problem. Having or borrowing a specturm analyzer
will allow you to see the signal level off the
satellite so that you can set the position in the
memory. It will also allow you set the cross pole.
Failing that, it is just a matter of luck finding
signals. Optimize your C band reception on one of the
dual C/KU birds and try to find a signal on either
pole. Lyngsat is your friend.
