John...Why the vitriol?  The guy just wants to try
doing the job himself.  I'm not in Europe but I'll try
to give you as much help as possible using web
resourses.  

The BBC is on Astra 2D.  Check out the satellite's
pattern at this page:
http://www.satcure.co.uk/2d/fprint.htm

Based on that, you can find the size dish you will
need for reception.  The BBC feeds are unencrypted
standard DVB signals that can be received on just
about any receiver, like the Coship.

You might want to pick up a copy of this magazine:
http://www.tele-satellite.com/eng/   

It is aimed at European sat enthusiasts.  Even though
I am in the US, I find it has good reviews and tips.
