Encore: Waitt Radio Networks Renews Programming Distribution Deal With
SES AMERICOM on AMC-8
Delivers Localized Radio Content via Satellite Straight From Omaha to
170 Affiliates Nationwide
April 25, 2006 -- Princeton, N.J. -- Leveraging the leading radio
distribution platform in North America, SES AMERICOM, an SES GLOBAL
company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg stock exchanges: SESG), today
announced Waitt Radio Networks has signed a new multi-year agreement to
continue delivering near real-time local information, weather forecasts,
and 24/7 music formats to affiliates and listeners from Kauai to Maine -
all from studios in America's heartland.
Waitt Radio Networks (WRN) is building its independent radio programming
business on its innovative software-based and satellite-delivered STORQ
DeliveryTM System, which enables its on-air personalities in Omaha,
Nebraska to produce localized weather and community information on
demand for 170+ radio stations across the U.S. WRN has more than
quadrupled its affiliate roster in three years, taking advantage of the
fact that so many stations already have a satellite dish pointed at SES
AMERICOM's AMC-8 satellite.
"Everyone who's anyone in radio is on AMC-8 for its reliability and
reach," says Skeet Skaalen, director of engineering for Waitt Radio
Networks. "While most of our affiliates feature live, local programming
only during morning or afternoon drive-time shows, our STORQ delivery
system enables all of our stations to sound like they're local
full-time, only the on-air personalities are actually in Omaha. It's a
great localization service that audiences depend on every day, and it's
being delivered over the most dependable satellite and radio
distribution platform in the industry."
Waitt Radio Networks affiliates can simply log on to the Internet, make
their requests for localized content, and show hosts cut voice tracks
covering everything from weather to community events, contests and
promotions. The system then automatically delivers the localized
information, which consists of thousands of voice tracks per day,
securely via satellite to each authorized station, where they're aired
immediately or within minutes throughout the day.
"SES AMERICOM's AMC-8 satellite consistently tops the charts as the
radio industry's distribution platform of choice among radio networks
and program producers of all sizes across the country," said Bryan
McGuirk, president of media solutions for SES AMERICOM. "Waitt Radio
Networks is a great example of a radio programming innovation at work,
as it taps the power of satellite to deliver an all important local
flavor to large and small radio stations looking for a competitive edge."
