This upcoming Friday morning (6-20) United Launch Alliance is scheduled
to launch the Jason 2 oceanography satellite for NASA, NOAA, the French
space agency and Europe's weather satellite agency on a Delta II rocket
(7320 configuration) from SLC-2W, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California
Launch is scheduled for 3:46 a.m. EDT. with a window extending to 3:55
a.m. EDT.
Jason 2 spacecraft separation occurs approximately 55 minutes after liftoff.
Jason 2 , a joint venture of NASA, NOAA, the French space agency and
Europe's weather satellite agency, measures ocean surface topography,
monitoring changes in sea levels and the impacts on the global climate.
Jason 2 will replace the aging Jason 1 launched in 2001, and once in
orbit Jason 2 will be in formation with Jason 1 for the next several
months so scientists can synchronize the data from the new satellite.
