Dear Kartik,

In my opinion an assembled system (AMD based with 2 or 4 GB RAM,160 GB hard
disk) would serve your purpose.
No need of going for a branded system as that will be very expensive
compared to an assembled one (unless you have fancy for branded systems)

Typically in your kind of requirement.... students require access to GCC
compiler (for C programming), similarly they require access to java, c++
environment. Additionally they may need access to Web development
environment (PHP based environment).

Go for Fedora based distribution as all the above (including support for
Shell scripting) is available. Even Ubuntu is a good bet.
