Greetings from IIIT, Hyderabad!

We are pleased to announce that IIIT, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) and Usability
Matters.org (UMO) are jointly conducting 2nd National Workshop TechEase
2010, a first-of-its-kind workshop in India, for students, on usability,
user interface design and innovation in technology at IIIT-H’s
Gachibowli campus, Hyderabad on October 1-3, (Fri, Sat and Sun), 2010.

What is TechEase?
TechEase is a first ever workshop in India to bring Technology,
Engineering, Design, Management, Architecture, and Visual Arts domains
from all over India to enable them look through each others’ perspective
to understand Usability and User Interface Design, and help them design
the most user friendly interfaces for applications and devices we use in
day-to-day life.

What is Usability & UI Design?
It is all about doing the best designs for user interfaces of computers,
appliances, mobile communication devices, software applications, and
websites, so that users are able to enjoy their experience and
interaction with such devices.

Why should students attend?
Students will leave with new ideas, creative thinking, design
methodologies, presentation skills, practical to–do tips, knowledge to
create usable designs. Speakers are among the world class experts.

Who should attend?
Students from India of any discipline, in the final or pre-final year of
Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design, Visual Arts, Management
etc.. Interested industry professionals are also welcome.

How to attend?
TechEase calls on participants to identify bad designs, services and
experiences from our everyday life. For inspirations and ideas, you can
refer to Boycott Bad Designs, this was a program organized by UMO to
identify and raise awareness about the badly designed products. For
examples, refer to www.usabilitymatters.org. The best bad designs win an
entry into the workshop. Activities planned include: “Bad design”
contest, lectures by eminent researchers, and Interactive sessions and
workshops.

What you should do to participate in TechEase-2010?
Step 1: Register at www.techease.in
Step 2: Identify bad designs – to get an idea, refer to
www.usabilitymatters.org Step 3: Submit the identified bad designs at
[email protected]

Points to note:
1.Deadline for registration and submission of entries: 10th Sept 2010
2.No limit on the number of entries per college
3.Each Bad Design entry can be submitted by only one individual, and an
individual can submit multiple entries
4.Total number of participants is limited to 200
5.Students for workshop will be selected based on the quality of their
Bad Design entries
6.Names of the students selected for workshop will be announced on the
portal and by email, by 13 Sept 2010
7.There will be a registration fee (to be announced shortly at the
website) 8.Entries for TechEase will also be considered for Boycott Bad
Design contest - a separate event being conducted by
UsabilityMatters.org - under which each of the Top 10 bad designs will
be awarded a cash prize of Rs.3,000.
