Hi,
   
  Two solutions 
   
  1) chmod -R 777 /var/lib/rpm 
   also check if /var/ partition is not full.if its full then you would have no 
space to write in it thus these kind of issue can crop up.
  and then try installing or
   
  2) rm /var/lib/__db*
  3)rpm -vv --rebuildb
   
  4) then try to install it again.
