Hi all:

After 5 hours of effort, I could finally manage to
compile and configure KDE 4.0 beta 1 to run with existing
KDM code and libraries.

First impression:

1. KDE 4 is a very polished slick desktop with
   a slight Vista'ish/MacOS X'ish look and feel.

2. The UI is very responsive and a mouse over effect
   literally jumps at you.

3. The performance improvement is definitely felt by the end user.

Haven't tried Beryl and Compiz as yet.
Basically these are 3D components in the UI.

Qt4 is one of the reasons why KDE desktop has such a
professional feel about it.

For the ones who want to get their hands dirty,
here's the starting point

Just to let you know, I tried KDE 4 on a
Celeron 1.8 GHz Laptop with 512 Mb RAM and 20GB IDE disk.

KDE 4 surely rocks !

Give it a try folks.

thanks
Saifi.
