Hi Sampath:

You're welcome anytime.

LG StudioWorks 520Si monitor and intel 810 chipset board
is what i've been using since 1999 !

The same xorg.conf settings across XFree86 3.x 4.x and Xorg 6.x 7.x
have given different results, given the quality of the driver
support.

Redhat 6.3
Redhat 7.0
Redhat 7.1
Redhat 7.2
Redhat 7.3
Redhat 8.0
Redhat 9.0
Fedora 1
Fedora 2
Fedora 4
Fedora 5
Fedora 6
Fedora 7
Fedora 8

are the distro versions that i used with the same xfree86.conf / xorg.conf

In the 7.x, 8 and 9 series, after the installation of the packages
would be complete, there would be a screen to configure X.

In 9 out of 10 cases, auto configuration would fail and anaconda
installer would abort saying installation filed.

The sad part of this step would be that grub never got installed.
So after one hour of installation you have essentially a unusable
system. Free as in free pain !

interestingly enough while the display support did not substantially
improve, the commands key changing

xfree86cfg
redhat-display
system-display
etc.

i always maintained one copy of the X configuration file on my file
server and then would just copy it to /etc/X11/ after the installation
would complete.

Fedora 8 essentially copies the OpenSuSe approach in engineering,
usability and polish into the desktop. Good to see it improve.

I've been using OpenSuSe 10.1/.2 since 2005 and it's very polished.
YaST updates are smooth. The system is very stable and it works
fantastic on widescreen laptops.

Have a nice day !

thanks
Saifi.
