Hi Sridhar: You are absolutely right. First OS is Linux and then perhaps BSD. In fact some of the smartest ideas about Release Engineering, Package management have come in from BSD. Gentoo Linux uses a 'portage' system, which is a 'python' implementation of a similar system called 'ports' in BSD terminology.
