Yes, SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) based computing is a very important solution blueprint. The conceptual aspects of it are vast and multi-faceted. When it comes to implementation: . For Windows till .Net, its Remoting (RPC inside COM in .Net) . For Java till Java6, its mostly Jini (leveraged on RMI) and some SOAP. . For Open Source infrastructures, its SOAP/REST . For JEE till EJB 3.0, its BPEL . For the OMG folks, its CORBA This is a preliminary assessment. It would be nice to read the thoughts of practioners on this. thanks Saifi. Ps.
