Login as root and execute the command. X -configure You will see a xorg.conf file generated in /root directory. Move/Copy that out to /etc/X11/ directory Now login as normal user and 'startx'. It should work fine. Btw, i'm using AMD Athlon X2 4400+ with ASUS M2N-MX SE with NVDIA GeForce and 2 GB RAM. X window works beautifully and i'm running dwm, KDE 4.2 alpha. It rocks ! I'd recommend you to try Gentoo 2008.0 r1 or OpenSuSe 11 Linux. thanks Saifi.
