AFAIK, this is FOSS/Linux list.  For Windows queries, you might get more 
relevant help in a MS Windows forum.

Cleaning up the registry is a solution if you know for sure that it is 
the problem.  Alternately, you can wipe out the windows registry 
**completely** by installing one of several fine Linux desktop 
distributions :)

To the best of my knowledge putting an IDE and a SATA disk in parallel 
is not possible.

Take a peek in your system BIOS and rearrange the order of the hard 
disks.
