I'm new to grid systems in general and Twitter Bootstrap. I messed around
with Bootstrap 1.4 quite a few months ago, and now want to dive in further
now that 2.0 is out.

I"m trying to create a page layout with 2 columns -- span3 and span 9. For
the main column I want to use the carousel and show photos but all the
photos are in 1:1 aspect ratio, specifically 640x640.

The carousel doesn't seem to work well with square photos when coupled with
a grid span that makes it rectangular. For example, see this example where
I use span3 + span9 and you'll see that the carousel has extra space on the
right side:

I can Shrink the grid spans to span5 + span7 (e.g.
http://jsfiddle.net/trevin/SYy4C/2/) but the problem is this makes the left
column unnecessarily large. My confusion might have to do more with how
grid systems work than the carousel itself.

What is the right way to handle this?
