Just to churp in here...
Personal opinions on IE6 are bound to be strong and passionate. Most of
us shudder at the very sound of "IE6"- most of us wanted to ditch
support for it years and years ago, and in fact most people are in the
fortunate position of being able to ditch it.
This shouldn't stop there being a thread on those designers who are in
the position of having to support IE6. Bootstrap may not have been built
with that in mind, but I am sure it will be possible to do so- and that
is where this thread comes in. Although I'm able to no longer support
IE6, those of us in that position should have nothing but sympathy for
those in the unfortunate position of having to support IE6. Yes IE6
sucks, but that doesn't mean people round the world don't use it. If
20-30% of people in China support it, then if your website is geared
towards that demographic, it looks like you're going to have to support IE6.
I'm sure Bootstrap can be made to work for IE6, but it's never going to
work perfectly. With the use of IE6 specific stylesheets and various
polyfills I am sure it's possible. Even the wonderful HTML5 Boilerplate
has IE6 support! I'd definitely check out the HTML5 Boilerplate and
check out the various polyfills.
You have my deepest sympathy and support! All the best.
best wishes,
Ian

Vinicius, please keep your personal opinions out of this thread. Even
though I agree that IE6 sucks, I am working on a website, where China is
important (critical!).
Although you link to www.ie6countdown.com, that address does not show
exactly where it has its data from. I saw a reference to Net
Applications, but actually the homepage has NO INFO about browser
versions. After a while, i found it here and will just post a direct link:
http://www.netmarketshare.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=2&qpcustomd=0
<http://www.netmarketshare.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=2&qpcustomd=0>
This link shows the global IE6 usage to 6.87%. (apparently you need to
be logged in to see for China only). From ie6countdown.com i can see on
the graph that IE6 in china is at 23.8% for February 2012.
Whether you think this number is low (and that IE6 sucks), it is still
important for me, since I have to support China.
BTW, the stats are way easier to get hold of at statcounter.com:
http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser_version-CN-monthly-201202-201202-bar
(shows 27.18%)
compare that to the global value of 1.48%
http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser_version-ww-monthly-201202-201202-bar
I think somebody else already mentioned, if China is not important, then
ignore IE6. To me thats the best advice, but unfortunately I have to
support China, and this is what this thread is all about.
Cheers!
