Turns out that the the assets files were being served by our mason handler, and not directly by apache, and as a result, the mason handler was adding stuff to the bottom of the files and somehow it was messing with some browsers but now others.
Moved the assets outside of mason's control and everything is fine now. Thank you for all the help you guys offered. I really appreciate it. Len.
