Boa noite, encontrei na internet um Js que soluciona meu problema de um modo até elegante e simples, ele converte o <select> para o modo que o bootstrap faz. quem quizer ele [1] e tem também um exemplo de uso no jsFiddle [2], apesar de não precisar de exemplos só copiar o link do js que ele faz tudo do modo certo.
