That's weird. 

I have spans where I nest a DIV inside with padding and never have this 
issue.  Otherwise, it would be impossible to use the grid with any sort of 
control.

I'm thinking the border should be occurring inside the "row" object and not 
effecting anything.  I'm pretty sure I did this before but I'm not sure if 
something changed.
