If you don't use Photoshop or GIMP or other similar images manipulation software, you can try irfanview, http://www.irfanview.com/, to resize your images. (Windows PC) I also recommend using an image optimization software to minimise the size of your pictures. On Windows R.I.O.T. is great, http://luci.criosweb.ro/riot/, or on MAC, imageoptim, http://imageoptim.com/, is very popular.
