A friend told me that a visitor to her site, which was built using Twitter Bootstrap and is responsive, did not understand that the dropdown navigation button, also known as the “hamburger button” or “navicon,” is for navigation. The visitor was using an iPad. The visitor even thought the site, which has about seven “pages,” was a single-page site. I don’t think most visitors have such a poor understanding of web navigation but it could be a significant fraction as many visitors don’t have much experience with viewing sites via cell phones or tablets.
Can anyone here suggest or recommend an easy way to make it more obvious that the Twitter Bootstrap dropdown navigation button is for navigation?
