The most common (and safest) is to write your own css file and point to it 
in your html file, along with the bootstrap css file. Creativitytuts

 me a lot to get rolling. Do start with the introduction because he 
explains exactly what you need now. When I got started I found tons of help 
by searching online for "customize bootstrap".  Watch for recent changes in 
versions though - the syntax for layouts has changed a lot.

In order to change id's/div by name, you'd have to get into 
LESS.<http://lesscss.org/>
