Ok, well, I'll just try to stay current with future developments. The only password that I ever need with BasicAuth and my programs is my own.
My programs need to be able to run unattended on the commandline (triggered my procmail, for those who know what that is). If there isn't a way to do that, I don't have a plan B. I realize you're already aware of these potential problems, I'm just processing it now. TjL
