From a spam twitter (swit?) perspective I can understand not wanting to open up registration of new accounts to an automated status. Perhaps an alternative would be to create a "register and return" oAuth URL that lets the user sign up for an account and allow the application authorization access at the same time. But even if this is not possible I don't think this is too much of an extra step.
