If you don't know how to get started with the API, why not use a PHP
library and have it do this work for you? Two to start with are:
http://github.com/abraham/twitteroauth
http://github.com/themattharris/tmhOAuth

Once you get things working you can look at the library's code as a
model and then write it yourself.
