        Yes, by convention, any custom header is prefixed with "X-".  Usually 
you want to make a header name that describes what it is going to be 
used for.  Some examples of custom headers I've seen are:

X-Spam-Flag
X-Loop
X-Sender
X-Mailer
X-AOL-IP
X-Priority
X-MimeOLE
X-Originating-IP
X-Authenticated-Sender

        As you can see, they are self-explanatory.  You can create an add as 
many headers as you want.
