I'm thinking of Plan B: A Buffered Memory Model for Java Delphine Demange, Vincent Laporte, Lei Zhao, Suresh Jagannathan, David Pichardie and Jan Vitek http://www.irisa.fr/celtique/pichardie/papers/popl13.pdf but it focuses on the memory model rather than the language itself, so the "core" calculus is minimal language-wise (it models memory read and write, monitor locks acquire/release, creating new threads and detecting their termination).
