Always nice answering your own question. So I found a solution. Apparently the
update wizard missed “Migrate all file relations from tt_content.image and
pages.media” somehow.
One of my ideas was how to perform the update again.
Finally an old post from Jens, in the typo3-german list gave me the solution:
This part in the LocalConfiguration.php must be grayed out // to run the
update wizard again and see the magic happen :)
