vzic moved. HP no longer supports HP-UX.
Why do you say that? HPE still supports HP-UX through 2028: “Mature
Software Product Support without Sustaining Engineering through at least
31-Dec-2028” (HP is the ink company.)
The key point for that part of tz-link.html is whether HPE will update
HP-UX's traditional (i.e., non-TZDB-based) time zone tables from now
through 2028. As I understand it, in December HPE stopped issuing
patches and bug fixes, so HP-UX's /usr/lib/tztab won't reflect this
year's changes in Canada. That is, HP-UX longer has a
separately-maintained and current repository of time zone data that is
worth citing. If I'm wrong, I hope somebody corrects me.
Fortunately, someone stuck running HP-UX (and my guess is that there are
still many thousands of these somebodies) can ask Claude, ChatGPT or
Gemini how to edit HP-UX's /usr/lib/tztab as root, and if they're lucky
they will even get good advice. Which is about the same thing HPE would
have done for them. This is part of a larger phenomenon, where the
long-term software support business is a tougher way to make money than
it was five years ago, or even six months ago.
